This is a quote from the movie A Beautiful Mind, in which Russell Crowe plays John Nash, a brilliant mathematician who suffers from schizophrenia. In the movie, the scene where he’s talking to his wife Alicia about his illness is one of the most powerful scenes of any film I have ever seen. It’s not just that he’s saying that people with mental illness are human beings just like everyone else. What makes it so moving is that this scene is set in the past, when he was still able to function at a reasonably high level of intelligence.
He had more time to reflect on himself, and more time to work on his mental illness. His philosophy here is actually one of the most important lessons in life: you don’t have to be an Einstein or a Nobel laureate to be successful at something.
